ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has no intention of resigning from any assembly, the party’s Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has said, dismissing the notion that vacating its seats would paralyse the political system.

Speaking in an interview, Raja said PTI had resigned from assemblies in the past, but parliamentary proceedings had continued despite its absence.

“Why should we vacate 76 seats?” he asked, arguing that the party could continue raising its voice and presenting its position through the assemblies.

PTI Raises Concerns Over Anti-Terrorism Policy

Raja also discussed the negotiations between the government and PTI, saying the party had been asked to sign an agreement accepting the proposed policy for combating terrorism.

He said PTI had called for measures to ensure that innocent people were not killed in drone strikes and that civilians were not displaced from their homes.

Commenting on the possibility of mobilising large public demonstrations, Raja said there was no mechanism through which millions of people could simply be brought onto the streets at the push of a button.

He noted that the party’s leadership had remained active despite arrests, adding that people would join protests voluntarily if and when they decided to do so.
