The Punjab Charities Commission has warned charitable organisations and welfare groups that creating a social media page does not constitute legal registration, urging them to complete the required formalities before soliciting or collecting donations.
In an awareness message, the commission clarified that charities seeking financial contributions from the public must first obtain legal registration with the relevant authority, including the Punjab Charities Commission where applicable.
The commission cautioned that creating a page or account on Facebook, Instagram or any other social media platform does not replace the legal registration required for charitable activities. Organisations must fulfil the applicable legal requirements before appealing for or collecting donations.
The commission also urged citizens to verify the registration and legal status of charitable organisations before making donations to ensure their financial contributions reach legitimate and deserving causes.
It further advised charitable organisations to conduct fundraising activities only after meeting the relevant legal requirements.
The awareness campaign aims to encourage caution against unregistered charitable activities and promote transparency in the donation and fundraising system.
