ISLAMABAD: Indian opener Abhishek Sharma has set a new world record in T20 International cricket by becoming the fastest player to score 2,000 runs in terms of balls faced.

Sharma reached the milestone in just 1,024 balls, surpassing former India captain Suryakumar Yadav, who took 1,164 balls to complete 2,000 runs.

The record-breaking achievement came during the third T20 International against the West Indies in Indore, where Sharma delivered an explosive batting performance.

The left-handed opener smashed 69 runs off just 30 balls, putting the opposition bowlers under immense pressure. He also completed his half-century in only 18 balls, showcasing his aggressive batting style and remarkable scoring ability.

Sharma’s achievement places him at the top of the list of players who have reached 2,000 runs in T20 Internationals in the fewest balls.

Austria’s Karanbir Singh occupies third place on the list, followed by Australia’s Aaron Finch in fourth position and the United Arab Emirates’ Muhammad Waseem in fifth.

Same Runs, Same Balls: Labuschagne Makes Test History

Meanwhile, Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne has achieved a rare statistical feat in Test cricket after scoring identical runs off the same number of deliveries in both innings of a match.

Labuschagne scored 37 runs off 58 balls in each innings, registering his name in a unique category of Test cricket records.

As per available statistics, this is only the second time that something like this has ever happened in Test cricket where batters scored at least 20 runs from more than 20 balls in each innings.

The last time something similar had occurred was in the 1977-78 season when the Indian wicket-keeper batter, Syed Kirmani, made 29 runs from 62 balls in each innings of the Test against Australia in the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

It is another odd record added by Labuschagne in the history of Test cricket.
