PESHAWAR: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Amir Muqam has criticised Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, alleging that he has kept the province paralysed for the past two-and-a-half months by prioritising political activities over governance and public welfare.

Addressing a press conference in Peshawar, Muqam accused the chief minister of repeatedly engaging in political marches instead of focusing on the province’s pressing administrative and security challenges.

“The chief minister is either holding a long march or a short march,” Muqam said, criticising what he described as the provincial government’s lack of attention to its core responsibilities.

Governance Takes a Back Seat, Says Muqam

Muqam said Afridi should have prioritised the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and taken practical measures to address the security concerns facing the province.

He alleged that instead of concentrating on governance, public service delivery and the resolution of citizens’ problems, the chief minister had been giving greater importance to political activities and protest movements.

The federal minister argued that the provincial government needed to focus on administrative performance and take effective steps to improve conditions for the people of KP.

KP Residents Want Peace and Development

Muqam said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa wanted peace, stability and development rather than prolonged political confrontation.

Criticising the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), he claimed that the party’s 13 years in power in the province had created difficulties for residents instead of delivering the progress and improvements they expected.

He maintained that the provincial government should focus on addressing public concerns, improving governance and restoring a sense of security across the province.
