PESHAWAR: Dengue cases continue to increase in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Health Department.has reported a total of 142 new infections across the province during the past 24 hours.

The latest cases have taken the total number of confirmed dengue infections in the province to 2,912, while 174 patients are currently undergoing treatment, officials said. As many as 2,738 patients have recovered from the virus so far, while no dengue-related death was reported.

According to the district-wise data, Kohat remains the worst-affected district, with the total number of confirmed cases reaching 1,824. Peshawar has reported 419 cases, followed by Bannu with 122, Khyber district with 101, Haripur with 77, and Charsadda with 54 cases.

The health department said no death from dengue has been reported in KP so far this year. Dengue cases in KP often increase during and after the monsoon season, when warm and humid weather creates favourable conditions for mosquito breeding. Rainwater collected in open containers, tyres, flowerpots and other places can provide breeding sites for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

Stagnant water around homes and in public places can further contribute to the spread of dengue in affected areas of KP. Poor drainage, uncovered water-storage tanks and a lack of regular cleaning can allow mosquito populations to grow. Spraying alone may not be enough unless breeding sites are also removed.

Preventive measures and public awareness are important to control dengue in the province. Residents are advised to remove standing water, keep water containers covered and use mosquito repellents. Anyone experiencing symptoms such as high fever, severe headache or body pain should seek medical advice.
