PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast rain, strong winds and thunderstorms in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from October 10 to 15.

Hailstorms are also expected at some places, while light snowfall is possible in hilly areas, according to the PDMA. A western weather system is expected to enter the country’s upper regions on Saturday. The authority has directed all district administrations to take precautionary measures ahead of the expected rainfall.

The PDMA warned that strong winds and hailstorms could damage weak structures, billboards, electricity poles and solar panels. District administrations have also been asked to ensure the continuous monitoring of rivers, streams and seasonal waterways during the rainy spell. Rescue agencies and relevant departments have been directed to remain prepared for any emergency. Authorities have also been told to clear drainage systems and keep roads open for traffic.

The PDMA advised tourists and travellers to avoid unnecessary journeys during bad weather. It also urged the public to stay in safe places during rain and thunderstorms and keep away from electricity poles and power lines.Farmers and livestock owners have been advised to take precautionary measures to protect crops and animals from possible rain and hailstorms.
The authority said its Emergency Operations Centre was continuously monitoring the situation. People can contact the PDMA’s toll-free helpline at 1700 in case of an emergency.
