RAWALPINDI: Sri Lanka have set Pakistan a target of 183 runs to win the opening match of their three-match T20I series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

After winning the toss, Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis elected to bat first. However, the visitors got off to a shaky start, losing two wickets for just 18 runs before a 60-run partnership for the third wicket helped steady their innings.

Opener Lahiru Udara led Sri Lanka’s batting effort with an impressive 91 off 55 balls, taking on the Pakistani bowlers and narrowly missing out on a century.

Sri Lanka eventually finished their allotted 20 overs at 182 for eight.

Udara Leads Sri Lanka’s Batting

Udara was the standout performer for the visitors, scoring 91 runs off 55 deliveries. Kamindu Mendis contributed 23 runs, while Dasun Shanaka added 15.

Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Sri Lanka managed to post a competitive total, thanks largely to Udara’s determined innings.

Naseem Shah Takes Three Wickets

Pakistan’s fast bowler Naseem Shah was the leading wicket-taker, claiming three wickets. Debutant Imran Randhawa picked up two wickets, while Razullah, Saim Ayub and Shadab Khan took one wicket each.

Pakistan will now need 183 runs to win the opening T20I and take an early lead in the series.

Captains Share Their Thoughts at the Toss

Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis said the pitch looked good for batting and stressed the importance of making the most of the powerplay.

He acknowledged that Sri Lanka were missing some key players due to injuries but expressed confidence in the available replacements.

Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan said his side had also preferred to field first. He confirmed that Razullah and Imran Randhawa were making their debuts.
