ISLAMABAD: Petrol prices in Pakistan may see a slight reduction in the upcoming price review, with petrol expected to become cheaper by just Rs0.09 per litre, while high-speed diesel could become more expensive by Rs0.57 per litre.
According to the available estimates, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is expected to determine the revised prices of petroleum products following its review. The government will subsequently announce the updated rates.
The expected reduction in petrol prices would offer only limited relief to consumers, while a possible increase in diesel prices could add to transportation and other operating costs.
Current Petrol and Diesel Prices
According to the Petroleum Division’s notification dated October 9, petrol prices were increased by Rs2.31 per litre, while high-speed diesel became more expensive by Rs0.78 per litre.
The current prices are as follows:
Petrol: Rs398.96 per litre
High-speed diesel: Rs395.72 per litre
The increases followed another price adjustment announced on October 8, when petrol prices rose by Rs1.82 per litre, while diesel prices were reduced by Rs0.91 per litre.
Following that adjustment, petrol was priced at Rs396.65 per litre and diesel at Rs394.94 per litre.
When Will the New Prices Take Effect?
The new prices for petroleum products would likely be declared after the completion of the pricing process by OGRA.
It should be mentioned that the proposed fall in prices for petrol by Rs0.09 per litre and increase in prices of diesel by Rs0.57 per litre are just predictions and not the finalized prices.
The final prices will depend on the government’s official notification.
