The Islamabad Police has issued a new social media policy imposing restrictions on the use of social media by officers and personnel across all ranks.

According to the police, personnel will be prohibited from using social media in ways that violate departmental rules. They will also be barred from making videos or taking photographs while wearing police uniforms.

The policy strictly prohibits the use of police uniforms for personal publicity, fame or glamour. Action will be taken against personnel who make videos in uniform using official vehicles or offices, as well as at private locations.

The new policy also prohibits officers and personnel from giving statements to the media, speaking at public forums or writing articles without prior permission.

Police personnel will not be allowed to express their personal political or religious views on social media. Sharing departmental or classified documents and photographs on social media has also been prohibited.

According to the policy, prior approval from the DIG Headquarters will be mandatory for sharing or highlighting the department’s positive activities on social media.

Information regarding police activities will only be released through the Public Relations Branch of the CPO, the police said. Unit heads will be responsible for monitoring the social media activities of their personnel.

Departmental action will be taken against those found violating the new social media policy. The policy has been approved by the Inspector General of Islamabad Police and has come into immediate effect.
