ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police has introduced a new social media policy restricting the use of social media by officers and personnel across all ranks, with violations subject to departmental action.
According to police officials, personnel have been prohibited from making videos or taking photographs while wearing police uniforms. The use of police uniforms for personal promotion, publicity, fame or glamour has also been strictly banned.
Under the new policy, police personnel will face action for making videos in uniform at government vehicles, police offices or private locations. Officers and personnel are also barred from speaking to the media, addressing public forums or writing articles without prior permission.
The policy further prohibits police employees from expressing their personal political or religious views on social media.
Sharing departmental or classified documents, photographs and other sensitive material on social media has also been prohibited.
Police officials said even the promotion of positive departmental activities on social media will require prior approval from the DIG Headquarters.
According to the policy, information regarding police activities will only be released through the Public Relations Branch of the CPO. Unit heads will be responsible for monitoring the social media activities of personnel under their command.
The Islamabad Police said departmental action would be taken against anyone found violating the new social media policy.
The policy has been approved by the Inspector General of Islamabad Police and is effective immediately.
