PESHAWAR: A new polio case has been confirmed in Khyber district, taking the total number of polio cases reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to five and the countrywide tally to six this year.
According to details, a seven-year-old boy from Ghundai Union Council in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber district has tested positive for poliovirus.
The Anti-Polio Regional Reference Laboratory at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad confirmed the new case.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has now reported five polio cases this year, including three cases previously reported from Bannu and one from North Waziristan.
Across Pakistan, six polio cases have been reported so far this year, with five recorded in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and one in Sindh.
