ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to waive the mandatory MDCAT requirement for Pakistani students seeking admission to medical and dental institutions abroad.
According to a public notice issued by the PMDC, Pakistani students applying to foreign medical and dental colleges will no longer be required to pass the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) as a condition for admission.
The council clarified that Pakistani students intending to pursue medical or dental education at foreign institutions will be exempt from the MDCAT requirement.

The decision is expected to provide greater flexibility to students planning to pursue medical and dental studies overseas.
PMDC Reverses Decision on BDS Programme Duration
In a separate development, the PMDC has also reversed its earlier decision to extend the duration of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme from four to five years.
The council has confirmed that the BDS programme will remain four years long.
PMDC officials informed the Senate Standing Committee on Health that the council had withdrawn its previous notification regarding the extension of the dental education programme.
The committee directed the PMDC to formally issue a notification confirming the continuation of the four-year BDS programme.
