ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has adjourned the hearing of the Al-Qadir Trust case involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi for an indefinite period.
During the proceedings, PTI’s counsel, Salman Safdar, stated before the court that they had previously filed applications for the suspension of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s sentences, but those petitions had neither been taken up nor fixed for hearing.
The court had previously maintained that the main appeals against the conviction would be heard first, followed by the petitions for sentence suspension. Salman Safdar requested the court to hold off on any final decision or proceedings in the Al-Qadir Trust case until they approach the Federal Constitutional Court and a ruling is issued from there.
Accepting the legal team’s plea, the Islamabad High Court granted them permission to approach the Federal Constitutional Court and adjourned the case indefinitely pending a decision from the higher forum.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Salman Safdar shared that during his recent meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, the PTI founder had specifically instructed him to file the sentence suspension petition.
