A 5.0-magnitude earthquake jolted several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa early Monday, triggering panic among residents.
Tremors were felt in Bajaur, Dir, Buner and adjoining areas, according to local reports. The tremors caused fear among residents, with many people rushing out of their homes and reciting the Kalma Tayyaba.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Islamabad, the earthquake occurred at 1:27am PST on October 5, 2026, at a depth of 224 kilometres.
The PMD said the earthquake’s epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, at 36.66°N latitude and 71.04°E longitude.
No casualties or property damage were reported immediately after the earthquake.
