ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Asma Arbab Alamgir has accused the PTI of misusing Rs700billion funds allocated for counterterrorism, were utilized for the party’s long marches.
Speaking to the media, she claimed that KP had received more than Rs700 billion under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award over the past 17 years for counterterrorism. Unfortunately, she claimed that huge amount was utalized on long marches.
She said that if the funds had been properly spent on maintaining law and order, the province would not be facing the current security situation. The PPP leader alleged that the resources were instead used for PTI long marches and other political activities. She called for a transparent investigation and complete audit of the funds to determine how they were spent.
Asma also accused the PTI-led provincial government of having alleged links with banned organisations and the drug mafia, saying that the province had been facing terrorism, unrest and administrative problems during the party’s prolonged tenure. She said the people and security forces of KP had made huge sacrifices in the fight against terrorism and argued that political protests should not be given priority during the current security situation.
She urged the PTI leadership to cooperate with the federal government and security institutions to address the terrorism threat. The PPP MNA further claimed that bulletproof vehicles had previously been provided for the protection of law enforcement personnel, but the PTI government had refused to accept them.
She said the loss of lives could have been reduced if security personnel had been provided with the required resources and protection. Asma also questioned Chief Minister Sohail Afridi over the provincial government’s priorities, asking whether they were political protests or ending terrorism and protecting the people. She called for a national strategy to tackle terrorism in KP beyond political differences and stressed the need for transparent use of funds allocated for counterterrorism.
