PESHAWAR: PTI’s tall claims to bring millions of party workers and supporters to the October 5 long march appeared to fall short, as only a small number of workers were seen at the start of the march in different parts of the province, particularly in Dera Ismail Khan.
Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur, who belongs to D.I. Khan, had earlier called on party workers to reach the starting point of the long march by 9am. However, only a limited number of workers were present there.
For the PTI long march towards Islamabad, Gandapur had announced financial support of Rs5 million. Addressing a South Region meeting, he said he had never asked anyone for donations for previous long marches and would not do so in the future.
Despite these claims and preparations, the number of workers at the start of the march remained low. The PTI leadership had earlier claimed that a large number of people would join the march. However, the situation on the ground did not match those claims, raising questions about the party’s ability to bring a large number of workers to the march.
The party had also used social media and other platforms to encourage supporters to take part in the long march in large numbers. Despite these efforts, large crowds were not seen at the start of the march.
