PESHAWAR: The Orthopaedics Department of Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) has achieved a major milestone by successfully performing the country’s first robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery at a public-sector hospital.

The advanced procedure was performed at KTH under the supervision of Head of Orthopaedics Professor Dr Muhammad Siraj. Renowned orthopaedic surgeon Professor Dr Aul Hakeem and his expert team carried out the surgery, which was also demonstrated live for orthopaedic surgeons from different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The live demonstration provided doctors with an opportunity to observe and learn about the latest robotic-assisted surgical technique.

Experts said the development would open new avenues for advanced orthopaedic surgery, medical training, research and academic activities in the province.

Khyber Medical College Dean Professor Dr Mahmood Aurangzeb congratulated the Orthopaedics Department on what he described as the first successful robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said the achievement marked the beginning of a new chapter in robotic surgery, modern medical training, research and patient care at the institution. He termed the development a proud moment for Khyber Teaching Hospital, Khyber Medical College and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

They expressed hope that KTH would continue to expand the use of advanced technology for complex and sophisticated treatments and surgical procedures in the future.

The hospital administration appreciated the efforts of Head of Orthopaedics Professor Dr Muhammad Siraj, Professor Dr Aul Hakeem, Dr Qaiser Azim and their entire team, saying the achievement reflected KTH’s commitment to providing patients with modern and quality healthcare.
