ISLAMABAD: Progress in talks between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been welcomed and termed as a good omen for the country, according to a statement issued on Saturday.
The statement said the PTI had agreed to cooperate with the government on several key issues, including special administrative arrangements in the merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, full support for ongoing military operations in the province and cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
It also said the PTI had agreed not to launch any kind of long marches in future or holding violent demonstrations, instead it would now focus on improving governance in the province. According to the statement, matters related to meet a prisoner and other outstanding issues would be resolved in accordance with the law.
It described the reported understanding between the government and PTI as a good sign for the country and said political differences should be resolved through dialogue. The statement, however, criticised the PTI for what it described as the loss of valuable time over the past three years, saying such serious issues should have been recognised earlier.
It expressed hope that the PTI would honour its commitments and would not backtrack. The PTI should honour its commitments and avoid backing out of the agreements reached during talks with the government. The statement said that any failure to fulfil the commitments in the future could create another difficult situation for the country.
It added that the necessary measures would be implemented immediately if the PTI failed to honour its commitments. It is worth mentioning here that government and opposition held second round of talks in Islamabad on Saturday.
