KARAK: Two people were killed and seven others were injured in a gas leakage blast in a house late Friday night in the Spina area of Karak.
According to Rescue 1122 and local police, gas leakage accumulated inside the house during the connection work, triggering a powerful blast. The intensity of the explosion was so severe that one portion of the house was completely demolished, trapping a family under the rubble.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched an emergency operation. Two people were confirmed dead on the spot, including a woman and a small child. At least 7 other family members sustained serious burns and other injuries.
All the injured were immediately shifted to District Headquarters Hospital Karak, where two are said to be in critical condition. A spokesman for Rescue 1122 said that the debris has been cleared and all persons buried under the rubble have been recovered.
The operation was completed after two hours of effort in the darkness. Police have cordoned off the area and started an investigation. Initial reports suggest negligence during the gas connection and failure to follow safety protocols as the cause of the tragedy. Residents have demanded that Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) ensure proper safety measures during new gas connections to avoid such deadly incidents in the future.
