JAPAN: Pakistan has added another glorious chapter to its sporting history at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, as the national PUBG Mobile team claimed a historic bronze medal in E-sports.
The five-member squad, representing team 4Thrives Walee, delivered a sensational comeback on the final day to secure Pakistan’s first-ever medal in E-sports at the Asian Games.
The medal ceremony was held at the Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname on Tuesday, where the Pakistani players — Mohammad Huzaifa, Shayan Asad, Falak Sher, Hasnain Rehman and Syed Sameer — stood proudly on the podium alongside giants Thailand and China.
The PUBG Mobile Asian Games title was decided after a gruelling 12-match marathon over two days, featuring 12 of Asia’s best teams. Pakistan had a disappointing start. After the first six matches on Day 1, the team was languishing with just 39 points, seemingly out of medal contention.
But Day 2 delivered something close to a miracle. The Green Shirts came out with a completely different strategy: more aggressive, more calculated. They amassed 61 points in the final six matches to finish with a total of 100 points.
Their best performance came in Match 07, where they scored 16 points, followed by 10 points each in Matches 8 and 9, and 12 points each in the last two matches. In the crucial final 12th match, they scored 12 points to seal the bronze, surviving a late push from Vietnam and Indonesia, who both finished on 95 points.
Thailand showed complete dominance throughout the tournament, winning the gold with 128 points, while hosts’ rival China took silver with 114 points.
This bronze is Pakistan’s fifth medal at the ongoing Asian Games 2026. Interestingly, all five are bronze medals. The country’s medal winners so far are: Women’s Cricket Team – Bronze medal; Asim Khan – Bronze in MMA (Modern); Noor Zaman – Bronze in Squash; Mohammad Ashab Irfan – Bronze in Squash
Officials from the Pakistan Olympic Association and the Pakistan E-sports Federation have congratulated the team, calling it a landmark moment for the country’s gaming industry. With millions of PUBG Mobile players in Pakistan, this medal is expected to give a massive boost to E-sports being recognized as a professional sport in the country.
