ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said that the option of imposing governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is under consideration as the Constitution allows it.
Talking to a private TV channel, the PML-N leader said the people of KP were not satisfied with the provincial government’s performance. He said Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had not attended the funerals of martyrs so far.
He said several options were under consideration and governor’s rule could be used under the constitution.
Chaudhry said backdoor efforts were under way on the option of governor’s rule in KP. He said he believed the provincial governor, Faisal Karim Kundi, would remain in office if governor’s rule were imposed, describing him as a good politician and administrator.
The federal minister said the provincial government’s alleged indifference was different from the federal government’s approach. He said controlling terrorism and protecting the lives and property of the people remained the government’s priority.
He said the appointment of the provincial inspector general of police required the federal government’s approval. He also alleged that changes to the Police Act were aimed at restricting federal powers and serving political interests.
The PML-N leader said Mahmood Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas were political figures who understood the issues. He said Achakzai was ready for talks, but the PTI support was not available. Chaudhry also said preparations were complete and that people had already seen the outcome of the previous long march. The PTI’s long march would not take place on 4 October, he concluded.
