CALIFORNIA: To help users remember the birthdays of friends and relatives, WhatsApp has started testing a new birthday reminder feature for iOS users.
According to technology website WABetaInfo, the feature is currently being tested in the beta version of WhatsApp for iOS devices. Under the new feature, WhatsApp will send users a notification when a saved contact has a birthday.
Users will then be able to open the chat directly from the notification and send a birthday message. On a contact’s birthday, the person will also appear in the Contacts tab with a cake emoji and a birthday label, making it easier for users to identify birthdays.
However, the feature will only work if the contact has added their date of birth to WhatsApp. The birthday reminder feature is currently in the testing stage and is not available to all beta users. WhatsApp may also make changes to the feature before making it available to users more widely.
For now, iPhone users will have to wait for the feature to move beyond beta testing before they can use the new birthday reminder option.
