KURRAM: Security forces killed 13 militants of Fitna al-Khawarij and injured 11 others in a successful intelligence-based operation in Kurram district, according to security sources.
The operation also resulted in the complete destruction of the militants’ hideout. One security forces personnel was martyred during an intense exchange of fire, sources said.
Security forces had received confirmed intelligence about the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij militants in the area. Following the information, troops cordoned off the area and surrounded the militants’ hideout in Maqsood Bagh from all sides.
The operation began in the morning as security forces advanced towards the hideout. The militants opened heavy fire from the compound and also used sniper rifles to target the advancing troops.
Additional security personnel were deployed to further tighten the cordon, following which forces launched a retaliatory operation. An intense exchange of fire continued for around one and a half hours.
Militants who attempted to flee after being killed or injured were intercepted by security personnel deployed at checkpoints around the area, according to the sources.
Security forces confirmed that 13 militants were killed and 11 others sustained serious injuries during the operation. Troops also recovered the bodies of two militants along with weapons in their possession.
The militants’ hideout was completely destroyed during the operation.
According to security sources, a search operation will continue until the area is fully cleared of militant elements.
