ISLAMABAD: To deal with PTI marchers towards Islamabad on September 27, authorities have equipped capital police with modern net launchers as part of security preparations.
According to police, the launcher can fire a net at high speed to restrain individuals and help officers make arrests in difficult situations. Officials said the equipment could be used against people involved in damaging public property or resisting police action.
The net launcher is expected to be used by Islamabad police for the first time during the PTI protest, officials said. The equipment is described as a non-lethal method of restraining individuals during emergencies.
Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad, banning public gatherings and assemblies in the federal capital. The district administration said the restrictions were also imposed under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024.
The administration warned that legal action would be taken against those violating the restrictions. It said a violation of the Act carries a punishment of up to three years in prison. Citizens have been advised to avoid illegal activities and cooperate with security agencies.
Meanwhile, mobile phone and internet services are expected to remain suspended in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Attock on September 26 and 27 as part of security arrangements ahead of the PTI march, according to reports.
Authorities have also planned restrictions on major roads and routes leading towards Islamabad. A high-level security meeting had discussed the closure of motorways, the GT Road and other key routes to maintain law and order and address security concerns.
