PARIS: WhatsApp has introduced five new chat theme categories, giving users more ways to change the look of their conversations.

The feature was first introduced on iOS and is now being rolled out to Android users through the Google Play Store.
The new categories include Featured, Nature, Live, Minimal and Doodle. The Featured category includes some of WhatsApp’s popular designs. Nature offers backgrounds inspired by deserts, forests, mountains and beaches.

The Live category includes animated wallpapers that move slowly in the background. The Minimal category offers simple and plain designs, while Doodle includes patterned wallpapers similar to WhatsApp’s default wallpaper.

Users can also change only their chat background without applying a complete theme. WhatsApp has added separate wallpaper categories, including Vibrant, with bright colours, and Gradient, with different colour combinations.
Users who do not like the available options can choose a photo from their phone gallery.

They can also create a background using AI. WhatsApp has kept the Live wallpapers slow and simple. The company says fast-moving backgrounds could make messages harder to read and may cause accessibility problems.

Each Live wallpaper also has a small badge so users can easily identify animated backgrounds before selecting them.
WhatsApp will automatically choose a chat bubble colour that makes messages easy to read. However, users can change the bubble colour themselves if they want.
