PESHAWAR: South Air’s inaugural flight from Peshawar to Quetta took off from Bacha Khan International Airport on Saturday, marking the start of direct air service between the two provincial capitals.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi was the chief guest at the launch ceremony, which was also attended by South Air Chief Executive Officer Nishat Fatima, Special Advisor to the KP Chief Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Samiullah Khan, PPP provincial president Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha, Anjuman-e-Hilal-e-Ahmar KP Farzad Wazir and Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Junaid Altaf.
A cake-cutting ceremony was held at the airport to mark the launch of the new service. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kundi welcomed the direct Peshawar-Quetta flights and said the new service would provide greater convenience to people travelling between the two provincial capitals.
He said direct flights between Peshawar and Lahore would also be launched soon, giving passengers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa more air travel options and improving connectivity with other major cities.
The governor thanked South Air’s management for accepting his request to launch the Peshawar-Quetta route and said the service would facilitate passengers travelling between the two provincial capitals. South Air had earlier received approval to operate flights on both the Peshawar-Quetta and Peshawar-Lahore routes.
