PESHAWAR: Clothing brand Khaadi has been fined by a consumer court for charging a customer Rs30 for a shopping bag bearing the company’s logo, with the court declaring the practice an unfair trade practice.
The Consumer Court Peshawar, presided over by Judge Nasrullah Khan Gandapur, announced its verdict in a case filed by Shafaq Amir.
According to the verdict, the complainant purchased clothes worth Rs7,000 from Khaadi’s University Road outlet in Peshawar on Dec 20, 2025. The customer was subsequently charged an additional Rs30 for a shopping bag carrying the brand’s logo.
The complainant challenged the charge, terming it an unfair commercial practice.
During the proceedings, Khaadi did not deny charging the amount but argued that the company was not legally obliged to provide shopping bags free of charge. It maintained that the bag was provided optionally at the customer’s request.
The court, however, observed that the company was charging customers for a bag carrying its own logo while simultaneously using the bag to promote its brand.
It ruled that the practice fell within the definition of an unfair trade practice under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Consumers Protection Act, 1997.
The court accepted the complaint and ordered Khaadi to refund the Rs30 charged for the shopping bag and pay Rs25,000 in compensation to the customer.
It also imposed a Rs25,000 fine on the company, payable to the government.
