Test captain Babar Azam has made a key decision about his future following a poor performance in the England series.
According to details, Babar Azam will be in action as a guest player for Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) in the ongoing President’s Trophy Grade-I first-class tournament.
Sources say that Babar Azam had requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to allow him to play first-class cricket in order to maintain his form and rhythm for the longer format. Following this request, the PCB arranged with OGDCL.
Babar Azam has not scored a Test century since December 2022. From 2023 to now, he has played 39 innings with an average of just 30.43 and has made only eight half-centuries during this period. His last Test century was 161 runs against New Zealand in Karachi.Former cricketers have also continued to criticize Babar’s technique, particularly his struggles against the short ball.
It is also worth noting that Babar Azam is returning to domestic first-class cricket after seven years. He last played a domestic first-class match in 2019 when he led Central Punjab to the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy title. Babar’s inclusion for OGDCL is being called significant. Meanwhile, fast-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal is also taking part in domestic cricket as a guest player for MIS.
