PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department released 12 confiscated falcons into their natural habitat after rescuing them from illegal wildlife trade.
Deployed at Toll Plaza, the Wildlife Department staff recovered the birds from poachers at the Peshawar Motorway, when they were being transported in a Daewoo bus. Authorities have intensified efforts to prevent the illegal trapping, transportation and trade of protected wildlife species.
Conservator Wildlife Central Circle M. Israr briefed the authorities about the recovery and subsequent release of the falcons. The operation was conducted on the directions of DFO Wildlife Peshawar, Mrs Manahil Wahab. It aimed at strengthening wildlife protection and curbing illegal activities involving protected species.
To release the falcons into the wild, a ceremony was held where KP Minister for Forest, Environment and Wildlife Pir Musavir Khan Ghazi was the chief guest. On the occasion, he released the falcons into the wild.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister appreciated the vigilance and dedication of the wildlife field staff. He stressed the need to further strengthen enforcement of wildlife laws. Pir Musavir said protecting and restoring wildlife populations was essential for biodiversity and ecological balance. He also highlighted the importance of maintaining healthy natural food chains.
The minister said effective wildlife conservation could help reduce environmental degradation and address the impacts of climate change. He also distributed appreciation certificates among the field staff. Cash rewards from his personal funds were also given to the officials in recognition of their performance.
