ISLAMABAD: The federal government has revised its support package for the families of government employees who die during service, introducing enhanced financial and other benefits for the heirs of deceased employees.

The Establishment Division has issued an office memorandum announcing the revised package, which will take effect from August 28, 2026.

According to the memorandum, the package has been divided into two categories: ordinary death and security-related death.

For security-related deaths, a lump-sum grant ranging from Rs10 million to Rs20 million has been set according to the employee’s grade.

The family of an employee who dies in a security-related incident will continue to receive the deceased employee’s full salary and allowances until the age of retirement. The children of the deceased will also be provided free education up to graduation and post-graduation.

In addition, the widow or one of the deceased employee’s children will be provided permanent employment in BS-1 to BS-15.

For security-related deaths, the government will provide Rs13.5 million to Rs50 million, depending on the employee’s grade, for the purchase or construction of a house.

In cases of ordinary death, a lump-sum grant ranging from Rs600,000 to Rs3 million will be provided according to the employee’s grade. The heirs will also be entitled to 100% of the pension.

The revised package states that families of employees who had completed less than 10 years of service will receive a pension calculated on the basis of a minimum of 10 years of service.

In cases of ordinary death, the facility of government accommodation or rented housing will continue until the deceased employee would have reached retirement age, or for a minimum period of five years, according to the package.

The office memorandum has directed all ministries and departments to keep the details of employees’ nominated heirs and GP Fund nominations updated and secured in advance.

Each ministry will also designate an officer as a focal person to ensure that all entitled benefits and facilities are provided to the heirs within one month.

The revised package will apply to all permanent federal government employees, while the new notification will supersede previous packages for employees who died in security-related incidents.
