PESHAWAR: Peshawar has taken a major step towards green transport as its first electric vehicle charging station has been established on Ring Road near the Motorway.
The station provides a 24-hour fast-charging facility for EV owners in the provincial capital. According to the Station Manager, in the initial days, very few vehicles used to come for charging, but now the number is gradually increasing.
He said that this facility will also be provided in other areas in the future. Talking about the benefits of electric vehicles, the manager said that petrol prices have skyrocketed, while CNG has also become expensive and is often unavailable.
“Now the era of electric vehicles has come. Once you charge an electric vehicle, you can easily reach Islamabad, and the cost is also very low,” he said. He added that fast charging is available at the station and a vehicle can be fully charged up to 100 percent in a maximum of one hour.
A waiting area has also been arranged for the convenience of customers during charging. “Initially, one or two vehicles used to come in a day; now the number has increased to more than 15,” the manager said.
A citizen who uses an electric vehicle said that after the continuous increase in petrol prices, he decided to buy an electric car, although his family opposed the decision.
“The initial problem was: where will we charge it? There were no stations in Peshawar, and there was also no trust in the battery,” he said.
Despite the opposition, he sold his old petrol car and bought an electric vehicle. “Believe me, my life has become peaceful. There is no worry about heavy maintenance or the fear of expenses,” he added.
He said that now people in Peshawar are also slowly moving towards electric vehicles; however, there is a need to establish more charging stations in the city.
