Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has returned the security cover provided to him by Sindh Police, citing an incident of “misconduct” by a police officer at Mazar-e-Quaid.
The decision came a day after a video went viral on social media showing a Sindh police officer snatching a flag from a woman near the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi.
Taking strong notice of the incident, CM Sohail Afridi announced that he no longer required security from Sindh Police. “I do not need security from Sindh Police. All police personnel should go back.
Not a single vehicle should move with me,” the Chief Minister said. Condemning the act, he said: “Police officers should be ashamed. They snatch flags from our mothers and sisters.”
According to sources, the viral video showed a police official allegedly taking a national flag from a female participant during a political gathering near the Quaid’s mausoleum. The clip sparked widespread criticism online and drew reactions from PTI leaders.
The KP Chief Minister said such behaviour was unacceptable and that he could not accept security from a force involved in what he termed disrespectful conduct toward women and citizens.
After the announcement, Sindh Police security personnel deployed with the CM were withdrawn.
