SWAT: A high-level alert has been issued in Upper Swat amid forecasts of heavy rains and severe weather conditions in the region.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected from September 2 to 5, while the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), flash floods and debris flows remains from September 1 to 4.
Water levels in the Swat River and its tributary streams are expected to rise rapidly. Authorities have also warned of landslides in mountainous areas and possible closures of major roads.
The district administration has urged residents and tourists to stay away from rivers and streams, avoid unnecessary travel during bad weather and refrain from camping along riverbanks.
Rescue teams, machinery and relevant departments have been directed to remain on high alert. The district administration has also urged citizens to follow precautionary measures and contact Rescue 1122 in case of an emergency.
