PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor has some reservations about the resignation of the former Chief Minister and has raised questions over the documents submitted.

According to a letter from the Governor’s office, two copies of the resignation were submitted, but the signatures on the two copies did not match.

“I received two copies of your resignation, but the signatures are not the same,” the Governor said in his written response.

The governor, who is presently not in Peshawar, stated that he will return on October 15 at 3 PM, and has asked the former Chief Minister to come to Governor House in person.

This event adds another twist to an already fragile political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the provincial assembly gears up for the Chief Minister election.

Earlier, ahead of the crucial election of the CM, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held a major parliamentary party meeting at the Chief Minister House in Peshawar where all PTI lawmakers were supposedly sworn to vote for their nominated candidate, Sohail Afridi.

According to sources, all PTI members in attendance took an oath to vote for Sohail Afridi and extended their full confidence in his leadership.

Sources further confirmed that 89 members of PTI attended the meeting. However, former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur did not attend due to lack of time. MPA Abdul Karim was unable to attend due to illness and MPA Chanzeb was on leave due to personal matters.

Sources revealed lawmakers were able and were then given instructions as to what to expect for the vote. They advised not to answer calls from any number they did not recognize, to limit their movements and contact, and to sleep the previous night in a designated safe house.

Members received further instructions to arrive at the provincial assembly before 10:00 A.M. on the election day.

PTI leadership reiterated party cohesion and discipline in the attempt to secure a clear and convincing appointment together as Chief Minister.
