KABUL: the Taliban government in Afghanistan has blocked Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, a former Prime Minister and head of Hizb-e-Islami, from traveling abroad.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s son, Habib-ur-Rehman Hekmatyar, says Taliban officials wouldn’t let his father leave.
According to international media report, Habib-ur-Rehman wrote on social media platform X that the Taliban is not only hindering his father’s public appearances but is also afraid of these public meetings, calling them dangerous instead.
He further questioned their motives, stating that while the Taliban are allowing other political leaders back in Afghanistan with guarantees of security, they are at the same time telling his father he cannot travel.
“Is the idea to have everyone come back to Afghanistan only to stop them from us from meeting, gathering, or moving around?” he asked.
Media reports state that for the past four years the Taliban rule and has placed excessive limitations on political leaders, former government officials, and tribal elders alike, many of which have been denied the ability to leave the country.
