PESHAWAR: A highly concerning situation has emerged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s public primary education system, with an annual report of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department revealing that 560 government primary schools have zero classrooms.
According to the department’s school statistics report, 41,528 children are enrolled in these schools despite the absence of formally recorded classrooms.
The report said the affected institutions include 415 boys’ primary schools, with 36,908 students, and 145 girls’ primary schools, where 4,620 students are enrolled.
Overall, the report lists 560 government primary schools across the province where the number of classrooms has been recorded as zero.
The report also provides details of the student-to-classroom ratio in government primary schools, highlighting a significant gap between student enrolment and basic educational infrastructure in several institutions.
The findings raise concerns about the availability of adequate learning facilities for thousands of children enrolled in the province’s public primary schools.
