PESHAWAR: Keeping in view the poor financial situation, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to increase the toll tax on the Swat Expressway to generate more revenue for the provincial kitty.

According to the details, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to increase the toll tax on the Swat Expressway, under which a 20 percent increase in the toll rates of the Swat Expressway Phase One has been proposed.

This issue of increasing the toll rates was included in the agenda of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet. This proposal of a 20 percent increase was to be presented for approval in the 57th provincial cabinet meeting; however, the 57th provincial cabinet meeting scheduled for August 21 was postponed.

According to officials, the proposed increase in the toll rates of the Swat Expressway Phase One will be subject to the final approval of the cabinet. After this 20 percent increase, the toll tax will increase from Rs 270 to Rs 324. It is important to mention here that this increase in toll tax on Swat Motorway will further put an extra burden on the poor masses who were already suffering from heavy toll tax on Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway.
