A three-hour rescue effort in Maharashtra ended in tragedy after a father and son fell to their deaths from a hill, with the boy’s mother also dying after she fell while witnessing the incident.
The tragedy unfolded during a three-hour effort by locals and his family to bring him to safety. The incident happened in the Tisgaon area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, police said. The teenager, identified as Kunal, had reportedly bought an iPhone but was struggling to pay the instalments.
According to police, Kunal argued with his father, Murlidhar Chandgude, over the pending payment before leaving home and heading to a nearby hill. His parents followed him, while residents also gathered to convince him to move away from the edge.
The efforts continued for nearly three hours. Locals reportedly appealed to Kunal to think about his family and future. Some even offered to arrange an iPhone 15 Pro for him in an attempt to persuade him to step back. At around 1 pm, Kunal’s father approached him and tried to bring him away from the dangerous spot. During the attempt, the two reportedly lost their balance and fell into the gorge.
Kunal’s mother, Sangeeta, witnessed the fall and subsequently also fell from the hill. Police said all three died at the scene. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations. A case has been registered, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Authorities have also noted that Kunal had reportedly made threats to harm himself over a phone-related demand in the past. However, police have not confirmed claims that he was suffering from depression.
