ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association has rejected the recent increase in diesel prices and demanded that the government immediately implement its written agreement with the sector.

Association President Owais Chaudhry said that the hike in diesel prices is unacceptable and that the government must put its written commitment into effect without delay. He noted that the agreement clearly states that diesel prices should only be revised after every 15 days.

Chaudhry said that daily changes in fuel prices have made it impossible for transporters to adjust freight rates. “A transporter fixes the fare today and the very next day the price of diesel changes,” he said. He added that the current system of frequent price adjustments is creating severe difficulties for the transport industry.

The association urged the government to promptly implement the agreed mechanism to provide stability for goods transporters across the country.
