ISLAMABAD: The legal team of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has moved the Supreme Court of Pakistan, filing a contempt-of-court petition against authorities for failing to comply with clear judicial directives regarding the medical treatment of the jailed party founder.

The petition, formally filed by advocates Uzair Bhandari and Salman Akram Raja, states that despite explicit orders from the apex court, the PTI founder was not transferred to Islamabad’s Shifa International Hospital. The legal filing asserts that the deliberate disregard and violation of the court’s mandate constitute a direct case of contempt of court.

The petition urges the Supreme Court to declare the respondents guilty of contempt of court and penalize them in accordance with the law, while demanding an immediate order to shift the PTI founder to Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad, for proper medical examination and care. To ensure compliance, the petition also requests the appointment of a judicial officer or a local commission to oversee the execution of the court’s orders.

The legal move follows mounting concerns raised by party leaders, legal representatives, and family members over the incarcerated leader’s health conditions, with the defence maintaining that the obstruction of court-ordered medical treatment is legally untenable.
