ISLAMABAD: Security forces and police have killed 49 militants in a series of intelligence-based operations conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan over the past few days, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The military’s media wing said the operations were carried out to disrupt militant networks and prevent attempts to undermine peace and stability in the country.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security forces and police conducted multiple operations based on intelligence reports in Bannu, North Waziristan, Orakzai and Khyber districts.
According to ISPR, 12 militants affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij were killed during the operations.
A large quantity of explosives, IED-detonating devices, weapons, ammunition and motorcycles was recovered from militant hideouts, the statement said. The recovered explosives, weapons and other equipment were subsequently destroyed by security forces.
In Balochistan, security forces also carried out operations against militants in several districts. ISPR said a total of 10 intelligence-based operations were conducted, resulting in the deaths of 37 militants affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan.
The operations targeted militant positions in Mastung, Mach, Khuzdar and Panjgur, where security personnel also recovered weapons, explosive drums and remote-detonation devices, according to the statement.
ISPR said the operations dealt a significant blow to militant networks and thwarted attempts to disrupt peace and stability in the country.
Following the operations, clearance operations are ongoing in the affected areas to locate and eliminate other militants allegedly sponsored by India, the military said.
Security forces and law-enforcement agencies remain engaged in counterterrorism operations, with ISPR saying such actions will continue with full force under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative.
