‎‎ISLAMABAD:The federal government has decided to present the Defence Forces Act Amendment Bill 2026 in the National Assembly today, following approval by the federal cabinet. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has also decided to support the bill.

‎According to sources, the government will table the Defence Forces Act Amendment Bill 2026 in today’s National Assembly session. PPP has confirmed its support for the Defence Forces Act Amendment Bill 2026.

‎Sources further claimed that PPP will also support the National Command Authority Act Amendment Bill 2026. The Interior Minister and the government’s legal team briefed the central leadership of PPP on both bills.

‎Officials said both bills will be presented in the National Assembly session today after suspension of rules for immediate approval.

‎Earlier, the federal cabinet approved amendments to the Defence Forces Act 2026 and the National Command Authority Act 2010.

‎According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was held in Islamabad today.

‎The cabinet approved the draft of the Defence Forces Act 2026. The draft has been prepared in continuation of amendments made through the 27th Constitutional Amendment. Its purpose is to define matters related to the post of Chief of Defence Forces and the administration of the Chief of Defence Forces Headquarters.

‎Following cabinet approval, the draft of the Defence Forces Act 2026 will be presented to Parliament in the ongoing session for approval.

‎The cabinet also approved amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010, which was a necessary step after the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

‎The amended draft of the National Command Authority Act 2010 will also be presented to Parliament for approval.
