MOSCOW: Russia has ruled out the possibility of an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov saying any truce should form part of a long-term and sustainable settlement.
In an interview broadcast on Russian state television, Lavrov said Moscow would intensify efforts against Western support that strengthens Ukraine’s military capabilities. Reuters reported that Lavrov accused the United States of being deeply involved in Ukrainian attacks against Russia, including through the alleged provision of intelligence.
Lavrov said Russia did not consider an immediate pause in fighting to be a viable solution, arguing that a ceasefire should instead be linked to a durable settlement addressing the broader conflict.
He also said Moscow had submitted questions to the U.S. State Department over alleged American intelligence support for Ukrainian strikes and was awaiting a response. No immediate comment from Washington was reported.
