PESHAWAR: Police have arrested a woman accused of allegedly throwing acid on a man following a dispute over marriage and a reported demand for Rs 2 million.
According to SP Sabir Gul Khan, the suspect, identified as Atiqa, is currently receiving treatment at a hospital after suffering acid burns to her hands and feet.
Police said Atiqa is a mother of two and had previously worked as a teacher at the same institution where the victim, 26-year-old Siddiq Ullah, was studying.
The two had reportedly known each other for around eight years.
According to the first information report (FIR), Siddiq Ullah told police that Atiqa allegedly attacked him with acid after he refused to marry her and did not fulfil a demand for Rs2 million.
The incident took place at Siddiq Ullah’s under-construction house in Abdul Rauf Town, police said. Atiqa is reportedly a resident of Gulbahar No. 4.
Police are also investigating a shooting that occurred during the incident. According to SP Sabir Gul Khan, it has yet to be determined whether the firing with a .30-bore pistol was carried out by Atiqa or another person.
Police said CCTV footage, mobile phone forensics and other aspects of the case are being examined as part of the investigation.
An FIR has been registered at Chamkani Police Station, while further investigation is underway.
