PESHAWAR: Forty-five government primary schools in Peshawar have been shortlisted for outsourcing as private and large educational organizations show growing interest in taking over their management.
According to sources, the selected schools are located in Peshawar City, Cantonment, Town, Hayatabad and several suburban areas. The initial list includes 15 schools in Peshawar City, while 15 each have been identified in Town and Hayatabad, with additional schools selected from other parts of the district.
Officials and sources said the decline in student enrolment following the repatriation of Afghan refugees has left a number of government primary schools with significantly fewer students.
The authorities are also considering changes to the position codes of teachers currently posted at schools affected by low enrolment. The process of revising teachers’ positions is reportedly being pursued alongside the outsourcing plan.
The move comes as several major organizations have expressed interest in managing the selected government schools under the outsourcing programme.
