LOWER CHITRAL: Severe flooding in Jughur Gol Nala following intense rainfall in upper areas of the country has inundated a village in Lower Chitral, causing extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.
According to local officials, floodwaters entered the village and damaged 26 houses and one mosque. A link bridge was also swept away by the flood, cutting off ground access to several areas. Cultivable agricultural land and other properties have also suffered significant losses.
District administration, police, and rescue and welfare teams have reached the affected areas, and relief operations are underway. Authorities are assessing the damage and assisting displaced families.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority has warned of more rain in the coming days. Thunderstorms with rain are expected in upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Mansehra and Battagram.
Heavy rainfall is also likely in Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Abbottabad, Kurram, Khyber, Bajaur, Dera and Bannu. Some areas may receive torrential downpours, raising the risk of further flash floods and landslides. Officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert and follow safety instructions from local authorities.
