ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has reported that 126 people have died and 404 others have been injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan since the onset of the monsoon season on June 26.
According to the NDMA’s latest situation report, the casualties were recorded between June 26 and August 1, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reporting the highest death toll of 55, including 26 children.
Punjab recorded 47 fatalities, including 19 children, while 295 people were injured, among them 68 children.
In Sindh, five people, including two children, lost their lives and seven others were injured. Balochistan reported eight deaths and 15 injuries during the same period.
The NDMA said Punjab established 75 relief camps to assist rain-affected communities. In addition, 333 heatwave camps were set up across the province, where 2,203 people received medical assistance.
The authority also reported that over the past 24 hours, rescue teams evacuated nine people to safety through four rescue operations in Punjab. Two people were rescued in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while five were rescued in Sindh.
The NDMA has urged provincial authorities and the public to remain vigilant as the monsoon season continues, warning that further rainfall could pose additional risks in vulnerable areas.
