Saudi Arabia has announced a major diplomatic appointment, naming senior diplomat and Major General Retired Rajih Al-Baqmi as its new Ambassador to Pakistan in Islamabad.
According to diplomatic sources, Rajih Al-Baqmi is an experienced diplomat who has previously served in key postings including London and Jordan.
He also served as a Major General in the Saudi Armed Forces, giving him extensive experience in both defence and diplomatic affairs. Al-Baqmi will replace the current Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Malki, who has served in Pakistan since 2018.
Sources indicate that Al-Malki is expected to be posted as Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Algeria. During Al-Malki’s tenure, Pakistan-Saudi relations saw significant growth in economic cooperation, defence ties, energy, and investment.
Diplomatic circles say the appointment comes at a time when Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are strengthening cooperation in energy, investment, minerals, defence, and regional security.
Analysts say Al-Baqmi’s defense and diplomatic background could play a key role in deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries. His appointment is expected to give new momentum to investment projects, energy cooperation, and bilateral ties.
