QUETTA: Senior boxer Ahmad Yar was shot dead in Quetta on Monday in what police say was a case of domestic dispute.
According to police, Ahmad Yar was shot and killed by his maternal cousin Anwar in the Hazarganji area. The suspect fled the scene after the attack.
Police said evidence has been collected from the site and an investigation has been launched. Raids are being conducted in different areas to arrest the suspect. “All aspects of the incident are being reviewed,” police officials stated. Ahmad Yar was a well-known senior boxing athlete from Quetta.
The killing of a senior athlete has shocked the local sports community. Boxers and athletes in KP and Balochistan have been raising concerns about lack of security and support for sportspeople. This incident adds to concerns about safety of athletes in the region.
