PESHAWAR: Flour prices have risen again in several cities across Pakistan, with dealers attributing the increase to higher wheat prices, adding to the financial burden on consumers already grappling with inflation.
According to the Flour Dealers Association, the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag in Peshawar has increased by Rs100 to Rs150 over the past two days.
The price of a 20kg mixed flour bag has risen from Rs2,650 to Rs2,800, while the 20kg fine flour bag now costs Rs3,000, up from Rs2,900.
The association said flour prices were continuing to climb because of the sustained increase in wheat prices.
Similar increases have also been reported in Faisalabad, where flour is being sold at varying prices in different parts of the city. Tandoor owners have also raised the price of bread, citing higher input costs.
Retailers said they were purchasing wheat at significantly higher prices, leaving them with little option but to increase flour prices.
In Sukkur, fine flour is being sold at Rs130 to Rs135 per kilogram, while stone-ground flour is priced between Rs140 and Rs150 per kilogram.
Consumers expressed concern over the continued rise in the prices of essential food items, saying the increases had placed additional strain on household budgets.
They urged the government to stabilise food prices and ensure an adequate supply of wheat to provide relief to the public.
